The Club

We are situated at the south end of West Kirby Marine Lake in a fantastic place with beautiful views. We have tidal sailing and racing on the Dee Estuary, but if the tides aren’t playing ball, we also have the Marine Lake. The Lake is a fantastic place to sail whether you are a seasoned racer or just learning, and great place for our juniors to start.

We are a family friendly Club encouraging sailing for all ages.

Whether it’s sailing on the Lake, racing on the tide, cruising to the Islands or just a spot of paddle boarding, we have it at West Kirby! 

Plain sailing, socialising or just helping out, there’s something for everyone! Afloat, we can provide competitive racing for all levels or just a relaxing sail. Ashore, there is a great Clubhouse, with an active social life, and lots of space for boat storage. Friendly staff and members are always around guide you in the right direction.

Lake Sailing

The Marine Lake is a fantastic place to sail for all abilities and great place to learn.

The club has a large dingy fleet of around 100 boats of various sizes and numerous classes: ICLA, Illusions, Solo, GP14, Laser 2000, Optimists, International Canoes, Fevas and 420s, to name but a few!

We have Class and/or Handicap Racing weekly on the Marine Lake, all year round.

Tidal Sailing

The club has a tidal fleet of over 50 boats made up of three classes of local One Designs: Stars, Falcons and Hilbres. Some of these boats have been sailing at the Club for over 100 years.

Tidal racing is from April to  September.

Cruising

The Club has a large cruiser fleet of around 60 boats of various sizes, both sailing and motor-boats. We have our own drying moorings for boats of all sizes up to 40.

The cruiser section organises races and a programme of rallies to destinations in the North West and further afield. 

Junior and Training

We aim to develop a passion for dinghy sailing in our youngsters which will lead to a lifelong love of the water, wherever life may take them!

As an RYA Training Centre we are focused on introducing all ages to sailing. We run an exciting string of RYA training courses and social events every year.

The Wilson Trophy

Held at West Kirby Sailing Club, The Wilson Trophy is widely regarded as the premier team racing event in the world. The event attracts some of the worlds most skilled exponents of the discipline, along with many Fleet Racing and Match Racing World Champions and Olympians.

The Wilson Trophy is held annually in May, taking place at the ‘theatre of dreams’ that is West Kirby Marine Lake. The venue is perfectly suited to team racing with (usually) uninterrupted winds blowing across the Dee Estuary. Racing taking place meters from the shore, complimented by commentary and an area for spectators.
