A View from the Bridge

The Wilson Trophy is our Club's Flagship event. It is the world's most famous and oldest Team Racing Event. It is coming in just 4 weeks time, we are still looking for people to help out with putting up Teams!

We still need to house 8 Teams of 6 people for 2 nights. Floor space will do. You do not need to feed them. If you have spare camp beds or blow up mattresses others could use please let us know.

If you can house a Team or even half a Team, please let Kathryn know ASAP - 07896 945267.

WKSC is unique in offering accommodation as part of the package. This event CANNOT run without your support.

There are ongoing negotiations with Wirral Borough Council about the use of the Marine Lake. We will let you know as soon as we have more information.

Sailing Season starts today! So I hope to see you out on the water!

Best Regards,

Chris

Sailing Matters

The 'Big Lash'  (Sat&Sun 22&23/3/25)

The Big Lash team racing event went ahead as planned in good conditions. Well done to Sheffield Alumni and Big Sheffield, winners and runners up. Our team came a respectable fifth.

FINN Open Event and Start of Season Championships (Sat& Sun 29&30/3/25)

Meanwhile, attention focussed on the Finn Open Event and Start of Season Championships last week-end Saturday & Sunday 29th & 30th March, on the estuary with big tides. The weather forecasts indicated fresh to frightening as the Aussies would say. Finn sailors are used to such conditions but it was asking a lot of all our sailors early in the season. However the wind speed was not as bad as forecast and the only capsize was by our top Finn sailor John Greenwood!  Despite the capsize he won the series. Racing had to be called off on Sunday - simply too rough. Therefore Saturdays Racing determined the overall winner and that was Liz Potter sailing her Contender with Steve Jardine sailing a Laser 2nd and Glyn Purnell sailing his Laser Radial 3rd. 13 boats competing.

Steve Ferrington - he was 2nd in the first race (Start of Season Championships) but damage at the start of the second race caused him to retire.

SIGN ON & OFF...... Please !

Started a sign on and sign off sheet at the weekend.
This is in part for safety reasons when on the tide and in part for Sail numbers and Names for results and publicity.
Times are a changing... with 'Pay2Play' we can't simply rely on what is recorded in the handbook. This will be for all races.
The sign on and off sheet will usually be in the club house but for the big tidal events when a beach master is involved the sign off may be at the top of the slipway.

420's at Royal Southern YC (Sat&Sun 29&30/3/25)

Neil Marsden and Olivia Creasy won the 420 Open Event at Royal Southern YC at Hamble this last weekend. Patrick Bromilow and Tom Kelsall were 11th but were scoring 4ths and 5ths but not consistently enough. Isobel Sandow and Edie Rogers were 16th overall but more importantly second in the under 17s.
