Lets start with the LONG DISTANCE RACE coming up this Saturday. Its an early start which has the advantage of making the most of the day! HW 09:48 8.7M The course and SIs will be determined on Friday with the weather forecast at the time. Start time is likely to be 08:30. The current forecast (as of Wednesday morning) makes it look too windy once again but lets wait and see.
By emailing your intention to race to results@wksc.org.uk (giving class, sail no, type (eg ILCA7, ILCA6 if a Laser) helm name, crew name(s)), you enable proper preparation of the race to take place. Sausage batches will be available after racing. ![]()

Last week in review:
Wednesday 3/6/26 Evening Handicap Racing - Postponed 30kts gusts to 43kts
Thursday 4/6/26 GP, Lightning & Firefly - Postponed still blowing
Friday 5/6/26 Optimist, Junior Handicap and Mirror
Optimist - From Matt Geddes
Great to see the numbers who turned out this Friday.
Optimists on Friday evening
Friday evenings Optimist and Junior Handicap racing.
Alice, Henry and Henry opted out of racing in favour of just some fun free sailing (not that the racing is not fun!) Alice giving new addition Finn his first taste of Oppy sailing.
Mollie, Sophie, Daisy, Theo and Seb went racing.
This was just the second week racing for Seb and he showed great determination in getting around the course and by the 2nd lap of the 2nd race you could see it was really starting to click! A deserving recipient of this weeks Oppy Helm of the Week trophy. Well done Seb!
The race officer set a great little course in a tricky wind direction, thanks John. The first race (with cheeky extra 3rd lap thrown in) saw Theo come out on top hotly pursued by Mollie then Sophie, Seb and Daisy.
The 2nd race saw Theo make it 2 in a row with Daisy storming through to 2nd with Mollie on her tail. Sophie was 4th and Seb 5th.
Well done to all whether racing or not, great to see all the smiling faces enjoying our sport.
Junior Handicap - Two club Fevas sailed by Phoebe and Beatrice, and Esther and Freya and a Pico with Harry Shepherd racing.
Mirror - Matt and Margo Melling upheld the honour of the Mirror class last Friday evening, being the only competitors.
Sunday 7/6/26 Spring Lake 7&8 - Five Lasers blasted round the course in a SWF4-5. Ioannis Koutsokeras (ILCA6) won both races from Alex Elliott and Mike Betteridge, both in (ILCA6) in the first race and from Steve Jardine (ILCA7) and Alex in the second race. Good to watch !
Just a bit too early for the start - last Sunday Hcap racing (all Lasers!)
Lasers blasting down the lake last Sunday
Tuesday 9/6/26 Solo, ILCA and Illusion - Postponed W 20+ Kts
The only entertainment was Gavin Roberts progression into Wing Foiling (see pic). As they would say across the water Good man yourself Gav!
Yesterday evening - racing postponed but Gavin Roberts entertained us on his wing foiler.

Other Sailing News:
The FIFE REGATTA this week till Friday
For those who have frequented the sheds at WKSC through last winter, they will have noticed Martin Hartleys Fife. She is a beautiful yacht, lovely graceful lines. Well … she is now sailing in the Fife Regatta that going on this week at Fairlie.
I was watching a film of a big Fife yacht tacking in a sailors breeze… just lovely - no wonder sailing/yachting is called the Beautiful Sport. Check it out on the internet.
Fifes at the FIFE REGATTA Fairlie (1 = Martin Harley) In mixed weather!
Martin Hartley at the helm of Fife 1 on the Clyde this week at the Fife Regatta
8 Metre Fifes racing at the Fife Regatta
The GP14 Nationals Llandudno 12-14/6/26 - Good luck to Jean-Louis Simons and David Bromilow who will be competing at Llandudno in the GP Nationals starting this Friday.
IC News: Steve Fleming has recovered his IC from Weymouth following vital repair work. He was re-assembling it all yesterday. Dan Skinner has also been sorting out a problem with Black Bettys mast step and has helped me with White Knights' top daggerboard plate (I haven't given up IC sailing just yet). Not far away is the Lord Birkett Memorial Trophy 4&5/7/26 at Ullswater. This Classic Race attracts an entry of some 230 boats. Our IC boys have entered and I understand that at least 10 x ICs are entered this year. I am booked on to the Ullswater Steamer with another IC sailor of a certain age where supporting the class through spectating is our objective.
Steve Flemings IC reassembled yesterday back after essential repair work at Weymouth.
Thats it for this week.
