Of course the weather is always the first subject as I look forward to the coming weekends sailing. Storm Bram blew through yesterday and last night. The forecast for the weekend isnt bad - maybe a bit on the fresh side but we will have to wait and see. Last weekend I forgot all about the big tide which was over the lake wall at the time of the Introduction to Racing Group activity and despite a forecast for plenty of wind there was hardly any at all. It was another dry session for those who attended. Steve Rooney was ready to go afloat sporting a newly acquired drysuit. Steve Ferrington had reminded everyone in a previous session of the great buys available on Black Friday from Wetsuit Outlet in Essex. Something like a 60% discount. I thought to myself I wonder if theyve got any left? They had and I ordered one on Saturday afternoon and it has just arrived … I might be warm if I get to sail on Boxing Day! Thanks to both Steve's. FROSTBITE RACING SUNDAY 071225 All changed with the weather on Sunday for the last of the Lake Frostbite Series. Force 4 SSE breeze challenged only four boats. The rain held off till the end of the racing. Keiron Inman and Paul Jenkins (GP14) won the first of the two races by 2 seconds on corrected time from Tony Clark sailing his Laser with no number on his sail….. I was RO and because there were only 4 x boats racing I could see Tony and recognise him otherwise I would just have had to ignore his result…. no number - no identifier. Steve Jardine was third. The wind picked up for the second race and it was Tony who won with Kieron and Paul second but Kieron and Paul were overall series winners of this 12 x race series with two wins and three seconds. The biggest turnout in the series was for race 3 which had 19 x boats competing. There were 35 x boats in the series. Thats not bad for a Frostbite series. Last of the Frostbite Series racing last Sunday Kieron Inman & Paul Jenkins GP13707, Steve Jardine Laser197309, Tony Clark Laser. Keiron Inman & Paul Jenkins planing away from Own Chambers (Laser) waiting for the second start. Come on Paul - hike harder ! YOUTH & JUNIOR NEWS Amber Price went to Ripon SC last week-end to take part in some Optimist training. 420s David & Patrick Bromilow, Neil Marsden and Olivia Creasy are off to Spain for a weeks racing. Eve Bromilow will be able to do some pre event training with a view to competing next year. Good luck to all concerned. Thanks to Oliver, Rory and Eleanor Davies for being part of the Thursday evening Mirror Project working party. Amber Price in the Optimist Training at Ripon SC last Sunday Juniors: Eleanor, Rory and Oliver in the Thursday evening Mirror Project working group. SAILING ACTIVITY Thanks to Neill Goodliffe for working on statistics focusing on a comparison of 2025 racing to 2024. This has provided a good picture both of the number of boats racing, class by class, including handicap racing and the number of sailors competing, crews as well as helms. The bottom line of all this is, that our numbers sailing overall were well up on 2024 and that's before we have completed the 2025 racing. Though this is good news, there are many negative issues in the detail which underline the importance of not letting up on any effort to increase sailing activity. CHRISTMAS IS A COMING I am dwelling on Christmas ! It seems I've got in the Christmas mood earlier than usual. The Christmas message is always full of hope. I need and am grateful for that when I'm tackling next seasons sailing programme ! It is also a joy when folks start to come up with thoughts and ideas for next season. Its WKSCs 125th year - worth celebrating throughout the year so keep coming up with ideas…. always linked to increasing Sailing Activity of course !!! Both the Sailing Committee and the General Committee have recognised the need to market our activities better than we have in the past… if any member has any professional involvement in marketing the club will welcome any help you can give. That's it for this week. Getting in the Christmas spirit with Christmas rats. a wonky reindeer and other creatures.
