A View from the Bridge
As we enjoy this glorious spell of weather, I'd like to take a moment to remind everyone about visitors to the Club.
We all know the terrace is one of the finest spots on the Wirral for a drink in the sunshine, and you are very welcome to invite friends to share the WKSC experience. With that in mind, may I gently remind everyone of the guest rules:
Guests must be signed in by the hosting Member in the Guest Book in the Main Room lobby.
Each guest may only be signed in six times per year.
The hosting Member must remain on site while their guest is present.
The Member is responsible for the behaviour of their guest, (including their children) (and their animals).
Guests may not bring guests of their own.
As mentioned in the newsletter a few weeks ago, we want every visitor to receive a warm West Kirby welcome. If you feel you need to check whether someone is a Member or a guest, please do so with good manners and discretion. A new face doesn't mean someone has wandered in off the street — more often than not, they're here because a Member has invited them, or, they are a new member you just haven't met the before
Thank you for helping keep the Club friendly, courteous, and true to the spirit of WKSC.
Best Regards,
Chris

Safeguarding
The Safeguarding Team at West Kirby Sailing Club would like to remind all members that parents, guardians and responsible adults remain accountable for the supervision and wellbeing of their own children and juniors at all times, including visiting non-member children who are attending the Club. It is essential that the whereabouts of all children are known at all times, both on and off the water, to ensure their safety and welfare. We also ask that all juniors conduct themselves in a manner that reflects the standards of behaviour expected within the Club community, showing respect for others, Club facilities, staff and volunteers at all times. The behaviour of non-members and their children is the responsibility of the members who signed them in.

The last week in review:
Wednesday 20/5/26 Evening Handicap
Wednesday is obviously an offence to the god of wind - yet another Wednesday night with strong wind.
Blowing 20 Kts + which put off all but two sailors: Liz Potter (D-Zero) and Owen Chambers (Laser Radial). Owen won both races.
A good show by both of them. The pics tell the story.

Thursday 21/5/26 GP & Lightning
Light winds. 6 x GPs Alan Jenkins and Clare Stranger-Ford won the first race with Kieron Inman and Paul Jenkins 2nd and Simon Harding and Paul Daniels 3rd. In the second race Kieron and Paul won with JohnElliot and Nigel Currie 2nd and Simon and Paul 3rd.
Judith Carter won both races in the Lightnings with Amy Watkins 2nd.
Friday 22/5/25 Optimist, Junior Handicap and Mirror
Light winds.Theo Geddes won the first race with Mollie Elliott 2nd. They swapped places in the second race. Alice Parkey-Pharoah 3rd in both races.
In the Junior Handicap Sophie & Phoebe Gatenby (RS Feva) won both races but only by 1 second on corrected time in the first race from Eve Bromilow (Laser 4.7). Eve was second again in the second race. Esther Hayrynen & Georgie (RS Feva) third in both races.
Mirrors: Harry Goodwin-Marston crewing for his Dad was first home in both races, Elias McLaughlin crewing for Tony Marston was second in both races. Derek Lyne was third in both races.
Saturday 23/5/26 MIRROR GRAND DAY No.2.
This was the back up day incase the first planned day 25/4/26 suffered from bad weather…. but it didnt. In fact the weather was perfect for both days. The objective this time was simply to give as many folk (particularly juniors) a go in a Mirror and this we did. Thanks to Jean Meakin who walked around the lake engaging anyone who looked remotely interested in sailing, in a conversation about sailing and lining up many youngsters to have a sail in the 12 Mirrors that were sailing. Jean also handed out many WKSC Mirror business cards to interested parties. Alan Leyland looked after safety matters from a rib though there were no capsizes. Pulled Pork Batches were provided to hungry sailors by House thanks to Emma Hall and Lindsay Gatenby.

Sunday 24/5/26 Spring Lake Handicap
Lovely sailing conditions at last for Sundays lake racing. The low turnout of six x boats can only be put down to many folk being on holiday. Liz Potter (D-Zero) won both races. Steve Jardine (ILCA7) 2nd in the first race, Stuart Dawson (ILCA7) 3rd in the first race and their results swapped about in the second race.
Spring Bank Holiday Monday 25/5/26 Billy Wilson Lake Pursuit Race
There wasnt a ripple on the lake as competitors gathered to race but a light breeze filled in from the north. The hope was that this was the start of a sea breeze that might have increased. No such luck. As boats were started in sequence - slower handicap boats first through to the fastest last, the breeze faded completely. The twenty strong fleet hardly moved far from the southern jetties for twenty odd minutes after the last boat had started but those nearest the promenade picked up the first of a new very light and fickle breeze from the north. David Taylor (Illusion) was first round mark 8, the first buoy in the course but the early calm period meant he was quickly overtaken. At the end of the 90 x minute race Liz Potter (D-Zero) won with Jean-Louis (Finn) second not far behind. Third was a 420 sailed by Isobel Sandow and Edie Rogers; a great result for a boat not usually associated with light wind performance. 4th and 5th were the Lasers of Stuart Dawson and Steve Jardine.

Tuesday 26/5/26 Solo, Laser and Illusion Races 5&6 of Series X.
Beautiful conditions - 7 to 10 kts NW - for yesterday evenings racing.
Solos: John Dixon had two wins. Chris Goswell and Alan Leyland had a second each and Bob Mosedale had two thirds.

ILCA7: Simon Johnson took an early lead and only increased it as the race progressed. Tom Green second and Lee Mathews, who sailed hard to get through to third after getting stuck on the rocks by the old baths at the start of the race. He made up for all that in the second race by winning from Gavin Roberts 2nd and Simon Johnson 3rd.

Illusions: Close racing in the Illusions with only a boat length or two separating the three Illusions all the way round the course. David Taylor won the first race from David Pontin. They changed places in the second race with Peter Williams taking two third places.
