Junior Training *2024 dates added ... booking to follow

WKSC has a thriving junior section and we are always pleased to welcome new junior members. They are the clubs future, and parents are encouraged to be involved in their children's sailing activities. 

We are an RYA Onboard hub and our aim is to promote sailing for young people (age 8 and above) whether they want to progress in competitive racing or would prefer to gain an RYA qualification (working through the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme stages 1 4) and develop seamanship skills. We also offer the chance for our Juniors to become RYA Assistant Instructors who then help with our sailing program, passing on their knowledge to others.

WKSC Kids Club  Tiddlers 

An interactive course aimed firmly at 5 to 8 year olds. Open to both members and non-members (trial basis) this program runs on Saturday mornings 10.00am - 12.00am. It is intended to introduce children to the water, building up confidence and most importantly having fun.

For 2024 there will be two courses both 4 weeks in duration.  The first course runs from Saturday 1st June  - Saturday 22nd, the second from Saturday 29th June - 20th July.  There are only 6 places available on each course so booking early is recommended.  Members will be notified through the club newsletter (Masthead) and a link will be added to this page when they are available to book.

WKSC Junior Beginners 

Aimed at junior members age 8 and above. It gives them an introduction to the parts of the boat, and the basic principles of how to get a boat sailing.  They will cover launching and recovery, sailing across the wind, turning around, and steering.    

There will be two courses of eight sessions over eight weeks run on Saturday mornings from 10.00am - 12.00am.  The first course dates are Saturday 18th May - 6th July and the second runs from Saturday 13th July - 31st August.  Members will be notified through the club newsletter (Masthead) and a link will be added to this page when they are available to book.

WKSC Junior Improvers

Aimed at Juniors over 8 who can competently sail a boat and want to improve their sailing skills. They will work through RYA Youth Sailing Scheme up to Stage 4.  Sailing with friends in double-hander boats these sessions are a lot of fun!

They are run on a Wednesday evening from 5-7pm.  The first session is from 15th May - 3rd July and the second from 10th July - 11th September (with a two week break on 7th / 14th August).  Members will be notified through the club newsletter (Masthead) and a link will be added to this page when they are available to book.

WKSC Family Fun Fridays    

Family Fridays are open to members of any age who want to end the week with a sail! Club boats/own boats/introduction to racing/fun sailing/RYA qualifications its up to you! Juniors are welcome but if sailing unaccompanied by an adult should be 8+ and able to sail.  These sessions are open to all members of the club and booking is not required - just turn up and have fun!
