Commodore's Ramblings |
I am struggling to find a pithy name for this section. 'Belgian Waffle' was a work of genius, so if anyone can think of a name that reflects this section please give me a shout! Thanks to everyone who attended the AGM last Thursday. If you did attend the AGM, please skip the next half dozen or so paragraphs, no one likes a repetitive bore.... For those of you who could not attend, I outlined what our new Team would like to achieve over the next few years. Our aim is to help the Club grow and promote the sport of sailing in whatever form that takes. We have a brilliant team of Senior Officers and an excellent, well balanced, General Committee with varied experience and expertise. We want to see more people out on the water, cruising, racing or just mucking about - for that we have a brilliant team headed up by Mike Hartley your new Rear Commodore Sailing. Mike is supported by Michele, and her merry band of Trainers, and Tony and his enthusiastic Race Team. All kept safe by the marvellous Rescue Boat Crews. We would like the Club to have a vibrant social life in a Club House that we can be proud of, and this will be led by Rear Commodore House, Tom Price. To get the Club ready for the Season, we would like to see Volunteers Groups, who can paint and repair the interior under Peter's direction. The Yard and the Club boats are always a huge task to keep in order, Mally and Jude will be leading efforts here. To enable this, we will set up a Volunteers Day, so people can come down and see what needs to be done in each department, prior to the big push! These will be great times for new and old members to get involved, meet people and make new friends at the Club. Date TBC! The Wilson Trophy is our flagship event. Nothing puts WKSC on the map like it. Kathryn and her band are already working hard on this (the first two entries are already in!). If anyone has any key skills here please don't hesitate to reach out. Our House Committee have some fantastic events lined up for the year. If anyone has any ideas, or would like to offer any assistance, please let them know. The events will be updated on the Newsletter and website in due course. Well done to all who went out on Arctic 1 series on Sunday! A cold day living up to its name with a great turn out on the tide. A great job by all the Safety boat crews, many thanks from all the Sailors for their continued support. Finally, I would like to say a huge congratulations to Tony Marston who was presented with the Glyn Evans award for his services to Sailing. For those that don't know, this award is the 2nd highest award the Club has to offer (only topped by Life Membership). It was first awarded in 1970 and Tony joins a very select list of worthy recipients! It was lovely to see his family at the AGM supporting him. Onwards and upwards! I'll see you on the water (amongst other places)! Chris |
