Time for me to go, me thinks!! The weather has been awful for the past ?? and there seems to be some correlations to my Race Officer Duties and time as Commodore. Needless to say, I was RO 2 weeks ago when the race was cancelled due to a lack of wind. Last Sunday, due to storm Eowyn? Apparently, if we have more storms, we could be hit by Izzy, Rafi or Tilly. Not sure about Rafi or Tilly but brace yourself for Izzy!! I have an Izzy that is now 27 years old when she does not agree, you do not get cocky you take refuge. On a calmer subject, I have asked for the update on the refurbishment of the Aberdeen Fireflies to be added to this newsletter and can be found below. The progress achieved so far is amazing, but we still have a huge amount to do, from cleaning the inside of each boats, to take out old stickers, paint the anti slip, check all fittings, make repairs on deck & cockpit as necessary, add wooden fenders on all boats, paint centreboards and repair, sand, paint all rudder blades and much more. In addition, 3 Fireflies still need their hulls repaired and painted. We are hoping to have all 6 Fireflies ready to be raced the week before the Big Lash (22nd March) in order to give them a trial under team racing conditions. In order to achieve this, we need to ask our amazing volunteers for more help. We are now running, from Saturday 1st February (10.00 until 13.00) a Dinghy Repair Shop, which will be fun and instructive. If you want to learn how to fettle your boat and have a laugh at the same time, then please come along. The Dinghy Repair Shop will take place every Saturday and Sunday in February from 10.00 until 13.00 both days. We would like 6 volunteers each day. No need to bring anything except yourself and your sense of humour. Awful Dad jokes will be allowed but only just!! We will send out by WhatsApp a list of dates when help is required. If you can help on any of the days, please WhatsApp Kay Eggleton by return. Sadly for me and luckily for you, this is the last bit of Belgian waffling. So it is Bonne chance to the new team and au revoir from moi. Did you know that Mr Google translate 'Over and out' in French as 'Encore et encore' / Again and again???? Monsieur Google. Your translator App needs resetting. Le Waffleur, bientot en vacance. |

Firefly Restoration Storm Damage Storm Eowyn caused some damage at the Club last week, with the patio doors suffering a slight failure! Graham Smith and his team of helpers have boarded the windows to make the Club safe. Thank you to everyone who turned up to help at such short notice. Hopefully it will be fixed soon so we can enjoy the view again! Sunday Lunch and Australia Day Sunday was a busy day at the Club despite the weather. Helen and Paul provided a delicious three course lunch in the Macdona Room, while Adie cooked up a storm on the BBQ celebrating Australia Day. It was great to see the Club busy even though sailing had to be cancelled again due to the storm. The Galley on Friday Seafood Shack are providing food this Friday. Served from 6-8 pm.
