Welcome to WKSC Newsletter

A round up of Club news this week... including sailing, training and upcoming social events. Also included are links to the Galley on Friday menu and current boats for sale.                                                                                           ..

A View from the Bridge

Thanks to everyone who volunteered to help for the Lash this last weekend, boat fettlers, shore crew, photographers, rescue, caterers, Umpires and odd jobers. It was a great success, our team just outside the Semis, came 5th.

The best result was the wind, or lack thereof, than meant that the damage to the boats was nothing that couldn't be buffed out! And didn't the boats look good!

Now the focus is clearing the yard and launching down to get the tidal classes ready for the first gun!

If you have any boats in the yard which have not yet been paid for, please do so immediately. It is not fair for volunteers to have to chase up the few who don't want to pay their way. If it continues your boats will be placed on public land for you to deal with. Fair warning.

The Wilson will soon be upon us. This is probably the biggest Volunteer event of the Club.
There are jobs for all people to get involved!
No one will be turned away!
NB: if you have a skill that you think we haven't got or even thought of, please let Kathryn know.
We are always looking for new and interesting ways to raise funds.

One of the biggest tasks we have is housing the Teams. If you can take, Half a Team (3) or a Full Team (6) - Sleeping bags and blow up mattresses are good - teams can bring them if pre-warned!

Can you please let Kathryn know if you can help ASAP. If you want the same team as you had last year, you'd best get in quick!

To finish on an important note, we are currently deep in discussions with the Council about collecting Lake Licences through WKSC going forward.

We are trying to pin the Council down to a fair price and terms and we will keep you updated. We will send out a message to members if we reach agreement in the next few days although this timescale seems optimistic.

However, lake racing starts on 1st April so, if we have no answer from the Council by then, members will need to buy a lake licence via the Watersports portal pending further negotiations.

Hopefully we shall know something soon.

The Junior Room has been given a fantastic update by Jane Thomas, one of our Safeguarding Team. I am sure the juniors will all appreciate her hard work and decorating skills. A special thanks goes to Adie Gregan who donated a new television for the space.

News & Notices

Weather this weekend - secure your boats.

This weekend has high tides culminating on Sunday night with a 9.9m tide and a wind forecast of 20 to 37 knots... the wind forecast can change. However, after last year's yard flooding we need to be prepared... maybe think of taking your boat home or at least securing it properly.

One lesson from last year is that even if your boat or yacht is secure your boat can still be damaged by your neighbours. There is a collective responsibility for our boats.

The Captain's Committee along with the boatshed staff will be around Thursday and Friday to advise you if you need it.

Boat Fees

We are approaching the summer sailing season and, as last year, we will be sending out invoices for you to pay your fees. The new boat fees, effective from 1st April, are now on the Club website.
To help us administer this efficiently please could you:

1 Wait till you receive your invoice and then pay promptly - preferably by Stripe or bank transfer;
2 Address all queries to boatstorage@wksc.org .uk - NOT to the office
3 If your boat is not currently in the yard and you wish to bring it down for the summer please email boatstorage@wksc.org.uk

As always the yard will be very congested in April as tidal classes and cruisers launch and dinghies return. If you cannot get to your allotted berth the Captain (Mal Jones) and Yard Manager (Jude Stratton) will be able to advise on where to put your boat pro tem. To re-iterate if you have any queries please send them to boatstorage@wksc.org.uk

Thank you for your patience
