Belgian Waffle... Someone told me recently that he loved the English weather. It is the best day of the year. Well, isnt that the truth this year. We must have beaten all records of race cancellations so far, but those sailed were special. The Menai Straits did not fail, despite multiple races cancelled due to strong winds. The highlight for me was the long-distance race to Menai Bridge, tacking along the shore, followed by a long run in an increasing breeze. This is an idyllic place to sail, offering different options up the beat and on the run. It was our turn to run the second Wednesday regatta, which went without a hitch in very light winds. My thanks to all of you who came to help or simply to support us. A special thank you to Helen Brown and Paul Weston, who provided excellent food after the sailing and to RAYC to provide the entertainment in the evening. This will be remembered as one of the best Menai Straits regatta party, with the entire room on the dance floor later that evening, bopping away to some old favourites. There have been yet again some awesome results from our members participating in championships. The last noteworthy result is Poppy Armstrong claiming the first female helm trophy at the Mirror National Championships with a 16th place overall. Awesome. Some of you may know that Charles has sustained an injury to his shoulder and has been off sick since the 15th of July. He has been given a date for an MRI scan on the 14th September. We wish him a speedy recovery. Andy Hillyard has a week holiday abroad in September and Judith Stratton will only be able to help out one day a week as from the second week in September, as she is returning to work. It means that during one of our busiest period, when cruisers and tidal classes are being recovered, we will be ever more reliant on you the members to help with the boat yard activities. The cruisers, Star and Hilbre classes must organise themselves to be on hand in sufficient numbers to haul out their boats. For all other tasks, If you have free time and can help, please contact Jonathan Atkinson, Pete Johansen or Andy Hillyard. Thank you. Jean-Louis. |
