Stars Celebrating 120 Years

In 2026, two Stars will celebrate their 120 anniversary. Carina, number 4, and Vega, number 7, first hit the water in 1906 and still are a joy to sail today. There will be many opportunities to sail in them during mid week cruises, and on the 7th June 2026, we will celebrate the 120th birthday with an afternoon of champagne and delightful company. Put this date in your diary.

Galley   - Mike is providing a new and delicious menu this week, including chilli, burritos, nachos and tacos.

Last Weekends Sailing

The weather forecast for last Saturday arrived on Sunday. The weather enjoyed on Saturday was much better than forecast. A gentle breeze filled in for enough time to get two short races completed. The lucky trio of Hannah Dufton-Kelly, Emlyn Law and Gary Collins, all sailing Lasers enjoyed 1-2-1 coaching.

Sunday mornings handicap racing was conducted in mixed conditions starting with WNW wind and finishing with a NNW, cool especially in the showers.

I am not 100% certain of the results as I write this, sat outside Board and Works, Weymouth (don't ask), as the results team are wrestling with boat / sailor identification, but I think Keiron Inman and Paul Jenkins won the first race and came second in the second race whilst Steve Ferrington came second in the first race and won the second race. Ioannis Koutsokeras and Glyn Purnell followed. Im told theres just one point in it for the series with 2 races to go.

Going back to identifying boats / sailors / sail numbers… the results team have situations vacant for more folk who will gladly give up their time simply to sort out who is sailing what and which sail number. They must have a degree in clairvoyance, a great sense of humour, infinite patience and be prepared to work for WKSC standard volunteer rate of pay minus expenses. Alternatively, the Sailing Secretary has another plan. It involves the reintroduction of old Navy disciplinary methods. The Commodore will explain.

A second alternative is to have a sign on sheet like just about every other club in the country.

2026 Sailing Programme

The 2026 Sailing Programme will be up on the notice board within the next week enabling you to volunteer for your choice of date for RO duties. Assistant ROs will be allocated duties at a later date. The intention is that AROs will train alongside an experienced RO.
