A View from the Bridge |
It has been a quiet week sailing wise. The Easterlies are still sitting with us keeping this dry but cold weather system plonked over us, this system effectively put the kibosh on Sunday's sailing. Please be understanding of the Race Officer when they make this decision, it has to be made taking into account all abilities, not just for the few. As many of you have seen, the men's changing room refurbishment is underway. Peter Holt is leading the charge there. Please be mindful of his work, your patience is appreciated. We are looking at running a Volunteers Weekend on Sunday 2nd March - after Sailing at 14:00. As you all know, the Club is run by a cohort of Volunteers, but we always need more! There is so much to do and so many areas we would like to improve. This is from the boat storage, to decoration, to business plans. We will be 'advertising' the Club Departments, but also will be looking for assistance in marketing, design and a plethora of other tasks. If you have a particular skill set, which you think may be of use to the Club, come and find us and tell us how you think you can help! I f you don't have a 'skill set' per se, come and join in on one of the working parties as we prep the Club for the Season. I saw Tim James, our Bar Manager, last week and I wished him a speedy recovery after his operation. I'm sure you'll and join me in passing on our best wishes! Lastly, I believe the Stars had a fantastic party on Saturday with 74 people seated for dinner. I was very sorry I couldn't join you, very many thanks for the invitation. This event doubled as a wonderful celebration for Pam Wilcox's 96th birthday complete with Star cake! ![]() Yours Aye, Chris |

Sue Capper Kay Eggleton ![]() ![]() Boat Storage Dear Boat Owners, As we will soon be reaching the magical boat moving stage of the year, known as Tetris to our Yard Team, various teams will be moving Fireflies out of the Sheds, in addition to the Hilbres and Stars being brought out of their hibernation for the forthcoming season ahead. This will involve moving members boats around the yard to assist this process. Can I please ask that all boat owners check their boats, particularly ensuring there is air in the tires and importantly the boats are drained of water. Unfortunately, in moving one of the Falcons this winter, one of our volunteers sustained an injury from the boat being full of water. We all have a duty to ensure our boats are stored safely and in good order. Thank you in advance. With thanks Jonathan Atkinson The Gents Changing Room Repairs Just a quick update on renovation to the men's changing room. The problem with the shower outlets has been clearly identified, and the drainage has been inspected. Just waiting for the replacement gully to arrive and preparing to hack off the damaged plaster. Hopefully the changing rooms will be completed within the next couple of weeks. If we have any volunteers that like painting please get in touch. ![]() ![]() Peter Holt Fabrics Chair Part Time Bar Staff Required If anyone knows of any suitable candidates, please contact office@wksc.org.uk. ![]() The Menai Strait Joint Regattas committee would like to hear what sailors think about the Regattas. How can we encourage more to enter? Our opinion survey is now open. It is an online form which takes about 10 minutes to complete. The internal link is below https://members.wksc.org.uk/article/256061 SAILING MATTERS RULES SESSION for Introduction to Sailing Group David Taylor delivered a Rules Session for the Introduction to Racing Group last Saturday morning. The communication for this session wasnt as clear as it might have been with the result that a number of other members joined in but none the less it was very well received by the thirty enthusiasts attending. ![]() David will deliver a rules update to a wider club audience on Saturday 8th March 10:30. Hell have got his head around some of the recent rule changes by then. You have to ask yourself if he cant understand them then what chance have I got, but hes the sort of chap that will resolve the problem areas into understandable chunks for mere amateurs…. Have faith! Thank you David. Last Sundays Tidal Arctic Series Racing - postponed Sundays Tidal Sailing suffered from adverse weather. It was breezy with a significant easterly component. For those who know the estuary this results in very gust conditions. In June perfectly doable but in February in 3 degrees …. Naaah. RYA Dinghy & Watersports Show Farnborough International 22&23/2/25 For those who wish to catch up the various class association stands and attend the many great lectures and discussion groups this show is great day or weekend out. Shedly Matters It brings joy and inspiration to take a wander into the sheds to take in the great work going on in preparation for the season: Fireflies received a top quality paint job after a significant renovation project…. Yes we have a trainee learning painting techniques. ![]() The new/old Falcon tractor also getting excellent restoration by Cleggy. ![]() A Fife beauty to behold… over yonder. ![]() Hilbres & Stars ![]() Tony Marston Sailing Sec.
