A View from the Bridge
The Ceilidh is on this Sunday 4PM!

Just a few tickets left, you will be able to pay on the door if your plans have changed.

This is the Summer Pavilion's last hussar before it's filled with Stars and Hilbres for the annual winter boat fettle.

We would like to say a big thank you to Mal Jones who stepped down as Captain a few weeks back, due to personal reasons. Sam Riley has filled the breach, and I think you'll all join me in thanking him for doing a sterling job so far!

Also one of the world's greatest living Belgians has taken over the job of Boat Storage Manager. JLS, thank you, you wonderful man!

Sailing Secretary Tony Marston and his team have set up the Start to Race Program, first session was last week, but you can still join in. It is already nearly full (and already outgrown the Training Room and Macdona Room!).  If you want to get one of the last places, let Tony or his Team know ASAP.

Sailing Matters

I admit to allowing myself to get caught up in too many sailing related matters this week, that I haven't got a coherent report. Well at least nothing from WKSC

Lets just pause for a moment to review a few things of interest on the sailing front from elsewhere.

West Lancs YC 24 Hour Race : Southport last weekend. Some members will be asking How did we get on ?. The answer is we didnt enter a team. Why not?, might be the reply. Well … the answer to that easy - we didnt have the enthusiasm to form a team or get organised.
Theres a discussion to be had around that but dont lets beat ourselves up over it - this is a review.

I noticed that at the Moth Championships the week before, in the extreme gusts Moth sailors were recording a speed of 35 Knots on their GPS watches !

The YouTube video clips on the 18ft Skiff scene in Australia in the run up to the start of their season in Sydney Harbour provide interesting info. This was at one time the ultimate development class. Now its a strict one design but very high tech.

Back to the 24 Hour Race. The team that won was the National Firefly Association which consisted of at least 5 ex WKSC members, at least four of which were female and two of which were ex juniors.

BUSA (British Universities Sailing Association) entered a number of teams in which there were Liverpool and Manchester Uni. Sailors which of course were WKSC members.

I hope we will enter at least one team in 2026.

This was a fantastic event last year. You don't need to know any of the dances as the caller talks you through it all. Whether you just want to come and watch the fun, or join in with the dancing, it's a Sunday afternoon, so let's get together and finish the summer on a high.
