Newsletter 21 10 26

Published 14:00 on 21 Oct 2026

Welcome to WKSC Newsletter

A round up of Club news this week... including sailing, training and upcoming social events. Also included are links to current boats for sale.

A View From The Bridge

As many of you will have seen, we are currently in the middle of redecorating the Club. The Main Room, Wilson Room, Front (Seaward) Foyer, and the area around the Galley and back stairs are all receiving some much-needed TLC.
The Rear Foyer is being left as a project for Jon Atkinson when he takes over. Great things are afoot there!
On a more immediate note, please make sure your boat covers are secured properly and your boats are well lashed down ahead of this weekend's inbound meteorological shenanigans. We currently have four low-pressure systems lined up to pass through in quick succession. The first has already gone through, the second is due on Friday, the third (and potentially strongest) on Saturday night into Sunday, and the fourth on Tuesday.
Even the "lulls" between systems are forecast to bring winds of around 20 knots, with peak gusts variously predicted at anywhere between 30 and 60 knots, depending on which forecast you read. Whatever ultimately arrives, it is likely to be a weekend for holding onto your hats and only parking beneath trees you really trust!
Please also take extra care on the front stairs. The roof is leaking badly in that area. We have had several qualified and competent people investigate, but so far we have been unable to identify the source of the leak. Rest assured, we are working to get it resolved, although it is proving to be a stubborn problem. There is currently a bucket behind the door collecting some of the water. If you happen to be passing and feel inclined to empty it, your efforts will be greatly appreciated.
If any of the brave souls venture down to the Club this weekend, I will no doubt see you there. Although I'm supposed to be working, I'm not entirely convinced many ships will be choosing to sail into this lot!

Weather warning

Please ensure boats are secure in the yard in the coming days due to the adverse weather.

The Autumn Quiz Series on Wednesdays 2000hrs

As with previous series this will consist of 5 General Knowledge / Trivia rounds, a specialist round and a news round.

Each round has ten questions except the specialist one which varies week to week with Anagrams, Dingbats, Riddles and other brain teasers.

Once again Jenny Wilkinson is our host who puts in many hours to produce these challenging but fun evenings.

There are a hard core of quizzers but we would welcome any other members and friends interested in coming along either individually or as a team.

Finally to round out the evening we have a game of cards where, if your luck is in you have a opportunity to go home with up to a hundred pounds.

Come along, support your Club and have a pleasant couple of hours.

See you there!
