Welcome to WKSC Newsletter

A round up of Club news this week... including sailing, training and upcoming social events. Also included are links to current boats for sale.

A View from the Bridge

I've been away most of the week, so I'll keep this short.
Congratulations to the GPs for getting a team to the Southport 24 Hour Race! 9 sailors plus 2 support gave us a very creditable result, Finishing 45th out of 74 boats and 21st out of 41 GP14s. A massive shout out for the youngest member of team Georgina, 10 years old, doing 3hrs on the water and helming the last 3 laps - well done!!!

We've had filming going on in the Club, which required the removal of the Beautiful Star, gracing the front of the Club!  Cranes, generators and food wagons rolled in to take over part of the Boatyard to film Tells Tower.
Thanks to Jill in the Office who always deals with the 'good ideas' we come up with and all the volunteers who made it actually happen lead by the Muscles from Brussels! Marvellous!

Absolute final call for the 125th Ball is going out - it does seem they were a shade more flexible than they originally said. We have the numbers for a really great event, but we can squeeze in a few more. The band are fantastic, they played at the Lifeboat 60th, for those who were there.
A good excuse to dust off your gowns and DJs!

Return your trophies!

That time of year has arrived again! Could I ask that all trophy winners return their trophies to the office before the end of September, clean and polished so we can present them again this year.

Thank you

Membership Secretary

I am intending to step down as Membership Secretary as the AGM in January, when I will have completed 3 years in the role.

I am looking for a volunteer member to take over. The job would suit someone who has recently retired and has experience working on a computer system, with basic knowledge of Outlook, Excel and Word (or any similar applications).

The job involves:

Processing applications for membership

Answering questions about types of membership, costs etc.

Dealing with people leaving the club (resignations, etc.)

Issuing replacement membership cards, and wristbands etc.

Contacting members who are late paying their subs.

Dealing with the rollover of the subs year on 1st October each year.

It mostly involves emails which I deal with from home, and I come into the office a couple of times a week. Workload varies, it can be just a couple of hours a week, it can be more. If anyone is interested, please get in touch (membership@wksc.org.uk) and we can arrange for you to spend some time shadowing me and see if you would like to take over the role.

Youth Dinner Returns! - Saturday 26th September - Last chance to get tickets

For those who remember the Youth Dinner they will tell you what a fantastic event it was. Some of us still attended into our 30s as it was always a great night! This year we are bringing it back for our Juniors. Any Junior member who is at secondary school or up to 25 years can attend and can bring up to five friends. It is Black Tie (or as smart as you can!), there will be a three course sit down dinner served by the House Team and music after for the party to continue. We really hope the Junior members of the Club enjoy the evening as much as we used to, and it can become an annual event again.

Menu

Starter: Prosciutto-wrapped melon. Sweet, ripe melon wrapped in delicate Parma ham, finished with a light garnish of seasonal leaves.

Main Course: Supreme of Chicken. Pan-roasted chicken supreme served with a velvety white wine sauce, dauphinoise potatoes and tenderstem broccoli.

Dessert:Chocolate Mousse Cake. Rich, indulgent chocolate mousse cake served with freshly whipped cream.

7 pm - 11 pm. Tickets can be purchased at the bar. £20pp.

Sailing Matters

In this weeks Sailing Matters:

Coming up this week :

The amazing INTRODUCTION TO RACING starts Saturday 3rd October.

RACE OFFICERS REQUIRED !

You may have noticed a number of Special Tidal Events  or Tidal Sailing in the Handbook / Sailing Programme.

All these events are utilising useful tides on a Saturday for sailing in the autumn / winter months.

I am down as RO for all of them. I am also running the Introduction to Racing Course. I can't do both at the same time.

Any of the days where the tide is greater that 8.7M  the racing could be run from the boat park which makes life easier for the RO and reduces the resources needed to make it work.

If you want to have a shot at being an RO or ARO for some or any of these events please come and talk to me. If we can pull a group of ROs together to run these races it could be a good series.

More on Sunday Autumn Tidal Series racing, FALCON CHAMPIONSHIPS, CELEBRATING OUR NEW 420 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS & WKSC at the WEST LANCS YC 24 HOUR RACE in the full article click below!
